Complete our interest form. If you are passionate about giving back to girls living in under-resourced communities, then we are looking for you! We host five volunteer information sessions per year.

​What is expected of Mentors?

Graduated from an accredited 2 or 4 year College, University, or Trade School

Abide by the LOV Code of Conduct



 

Commit to mentoring for 3 years

 

Complete monthly match check-in survery

​

​

Attend at least 75% of sessions

​

​

​

Communicate with mentee at least 1 hour per month


 

Complete an annual background check


 

Participate in one quarterly exposure activity (educational, career, or cultural) with mentee

Required Mentor Trainings

All mentors are required to complete these annual trainings. The official training schedule is shared with mentors prior to the start of each program year, and additional training opportunities may be offered throughout the year.

Mentor FAQs

 

What does a typical mentor schedule look like?

Mentors participate in our Saturday Institute program, which typically meets on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays from October through May from 1:30–4:30 p.m. During these sessions, mentors engage in programming, mentor-mentee time, and group activities. Outside of scheduled sessions, mentors are encouraged to connect with their mentees by attending school events, family events, and participating in educational, career, and cultural experiences together.

What if I need to miss a session or training?

Life happens! We ask that mentors notify LOV staff in advance whenever possible. Mentors are expected to attend at least 75% of sessions and complete all required trainings. Consistent absences may affect participation status and future mentor matching opportunities.

How are mentors matched with mentees?
We thoughtfully match mentors and mentees based on assessments completed by both participants, taking into consideration shared interests, backgrounds, personalities, and goals. Matches are typically made in March each year.

I'm currently a college student and would love to mentor. Can I?
We love that you want to mentor and share your experience with our girls. Unfortunately, mentors under 21 years old cannot currently be enrolled in college. However, we would be happy to explore opportunities for you to organize a college visit and share your campus experience with our participants.

Is there a cost to become a mentor?
Participation as a mentor is free, with the exception of the following:

  • Annual background checks (typically no more than $40)

  • Saturday Power to the Professional Luncheon (cost covers meal expenses)

  • Mentor outings that may require a small deposit depending on the activity

  • Optional LOV mentor and organization t-shirts

 

Am I responsible for paying for everything for my mentee?
Absolutely not. We encourage mentors to participate in free activities such as visiting museums, attending school events, and participating in local community programs. Families are informed that mentors are not responsible for covering costs associated with outings. Additionally, LOV offers a Mentor-Mentee Request Fund that can help offset expenses related to shared experiences, supplies, or enrichment opportunities. Mentors may apply for funding twice per year.
